I  have put up a new seniority list as of the end of November. About 5 more people left.

  1. Can we decide to take our severance at any time after the year waiting period is up?

    • Perry … According to the Western Regional rep Mike Fenton, you can take the severance pay any time after it is offered. Meaning the next day or 6 months later, etc.

The only problem right now is that if Catalyst can’t get their debt restructured, and files for bankruptcy protection before the end of February, none of us might get any severance at all.

If they can get their debt restructured, all that worry should go away and you could then take the severance when you see fit to.

  2. What is the right way to apply for the severance for us expats who are eligible.

  3. “that they have taken a severance” You mean there have been severance payments given out since the lay off to members?

    • Yes there were quite a few people that had a severance offer from the Kraft mill closure. They were all people who’s seniority left them below the cut line, so they didn’t officially have a job to return to. They chose to remain on recall status and see what happened, rather than take their severance. Apparently they’ve had a change of heart….

  4. Is it possible to let the membership know who left, it gets kinda embarrassing when you meet a brother or sister in town and being told they have left.
But then again, after the severance comes thru, it won’t really matter, will it??

    • A lot of people don’t want it publicized that they have taken a severance. In fact, many have left without taking one. We post an updated seniority list quite frequently. It is on the right hand side of the main page. It’s a little more cumbersome, but you can compare the lists and see who’s no longer on it. The majority of those who disappear have left the company, but there are some that go onto LTD and they are no longer on the list Hope that helps…
