CEP members occupy Cabinet Members, MPs offices

In addition to occupying Finance Minister Jim Flaherty’s office, members of the CEP are also occupying the offices of

* Jay Hill (Prince George-Peace River)
* John Duncan (Vancouver Island North)
* Lawrence Cannon (Pontiac)
* Josée Verner (Louis-Saint-Laurent)
* Jean-Pierre Blackburn (Jonquiere-Alma)
* Mike Allen (Tobique-Mactaquac)

“The federal government’s aloof attitude toward forest community’s borders on contempt,” says CEP President Dave Coles. “In the face of the pain and suffering created by 55,000 job losses in the last two years, the government has done nothing.

“Today we are taking a stand — we are fighting for the future of our families, our communities and our industry.”

  2. At 9:30 today the John Duncan Constituency office in Courtenay was visited by CEP Western Region Admin VP Don Boucher along with representative Mike Fenton and members from Locals 630 and 1123. A small group of people occupied the office demanding that MP Duncan meet with us, while outside on the street 630/1123 members leafleted the public explaining how the Government seems asleep at the wheel while the Forest Industy collapses.

    There were several members of the press who talked with the leafletters, and those occupying the office so you should see good coverage in the papers and on the news.

    The office remained until 2:30 when confirmation was received that MP Duncan would meet with the CEP on June 2nd in Ottawa.

    The same scenario played out at several Constituency Offices across the Country, with varying levels of success.

    Thanks to all the members who came out to leaflet. Sorry the notice was so short. Anyone interested in future activities like this can leave their name at the Local office and we’ll give you a call next time.
